The Village Manager appoints a provisional Superintendent forSaranacLake’s Department of Public Works.. With a unanimous resolution,SaranacLake’s board authorizes Village Manager John Sweeney to hire Jeff Dora as the Provisional DPW Superintendent. Jeff is currently site engineer on one of the projects managed by B&L contractors inSaranacLakeand the timing of his appointment may have to include a conversation with the contractor as to the timing of the completion of the water project which he’s currently working on..
Sweeney says Jeff will begin sometime shortly, the exact timing will depend on current obligations but there is definitely a need to get Jeff on board sooner rather than later..
SaranacLake’s Mayor Clyde Rabideau says Dora will be moving to the community to handle any emergencies which may arise..
Four candidates interviewed for the position, and one of the issues which arose amongst trustees was the question of residency in the village. Sweeney says Dora scored highest among all of those involved in the interviewing process. The Board also approved hiring a sixth person for the Wastewater Treatment Plant, who plans to move to the area and trustee Tom Catillaz says these employees should be members of the community..
While there is no timetable for the new provisional DPW superintendent to move into the Village of Saranac Lake, Dora has assured everyone he’s spoken with about the issue that he plans to move his family to the community and intends to become the permanent Superintendent, but that appointment will have to wait until after May of 2013 when he will be required to take and pass the civil service exams…. Until then, if there is a problem, the Village Manager has the ability to make changes and Sweeney says that’s really the purpose of the provisional appointment, to make sure that Dora and the 16 village employees will be a good fit for the community..
