One of the largest rugby tournaments in the world comes to theAdirondackthis weekend… It’s The 39th annual CAN-AM Rugby Tournament. Saranac Lake Mayor Clyde Rabideau heartily welcomes participants and spectators to this years tournament on the Can Am Rugby website… He saysSaranacLakeis a community with open arms and encourages everyone to enjoy the downtown district. The Event kicks off with an exhibition game by the Women’s U20 USA National team at 6pm Tomorrow at Ken Wilson field inSaranacLake. The Old Boys’ divisions begins play inSaranacLakeon Friday from 8am-5pm, and the tournament is in full swing Saturday with 11 fields of competition betweenSaranacLakeandLake Placid. Semi-finals are planned for early Sunday inSaranacLake, and the championship games kick off at 10am at the Bloomingdale fields on Sunday, finishing with a second Women’s U-20′s national team game.
Fields include The Petrova Middle School fields, Ken Wilson Field,SaranacLakeHigh Schoolfields, including the track and adjacent practice fields, Spencer Boarworks on Route 3, and inLake Placidat the North Elba Transfer Station’s fields – Recycle way, and The Bloomingdale Fields, home of the Championship contests behind the Bloomingdale fire department.
No Real Surprise in Blackfly Softball’s playoff contests… Captain Cooks shut out Waterhole and takes the series two and oh, Grizzle T’s out plays Romano’s thirty Two to Three and will now face Captain Cooks next week in the finals.. next week’s finals will be a best of three games format and will crown the season’s chamion..

The Fall Sports Parent/Athlete meeting will take place on Monday August 6th 6:30pm in the High School Auditorium. All Modified, JV and Varsity athletes need to attend. The paperwork needed to participate will be available at this time. The general meeting will be followed by team meetings. Football gets underway on August 13th, and then on Wednesday that week, Soccer, Volleyball and Cross Country.. Modified sports kick off the 23rd for Soccer and the 27th for Football, Cross Country and Volleyball…
USA LUGE TESTS NEW SLEDS..
The USA Luge team is inSan Diegotesting for the upcoming season… Two-time Olympian and 2009 World Champion Erin Hamlin is inSan Diegoat the Air andSpaceMuseum’s Low Speed Wind Tunnel.Erinis testing a new sled configuration and some creative geometry. Another piece of the test includes different fabrics for race suits. USA Luge has been testing at the facility since 2004. The Bobsled team recently tested in the same tunnel for the first time last month.

The testing methodology and expert staff draw both world-class athletes and top aerospace companies. To date, the LSWT has conducted nearly 100,000 hours of testing and has been used extensively in numerous military and civil aerospace development programs, including those of the F-106, B-58, F-111, F-16, Global Hawk UAV, Tomahawk Cruise Missile, and Advanced Cruise Missile. In addition, it has recently served the testing needs of Cessna, Boeing, Gulfstream, Northrop Grumman, General Atomics, Raytheon, and Lockheed Martin. As the only wind tunnel in the nation capable of performing low-speed flutter testing, Boeing has used the facility extensively to test all its commercial airliners, from the 707 to the new 787 Dreamliner.
