ADIRONDACK CLASSIC – 90 MILER
The 90 Miler has over 250 boats, That’s the word from Gloria Volz who is the Start Finish Line Captain for the Adirondack Classic Canoe Race. She spoke with the Mayor and Village Trustees about the organizer’s plans for the annual event which takes paddlers from Old Forge to Blue Mountain Lake, and then from Bissell’s Field in Long Lake to the Crusher… and then from Fish Creek Campgrounds to Saranac Lake on Day Three… Volz says they’re already above last year’s numbers… AUDIO (Gloria Volz) “There are 250 boats, which means 500 paddlers and 2,00o spectators in Saranac Lake at the Finish”
Organizers are currently involved in managing logistics including coordinating with the town of Webb, Long Lake, sound systems, signs, cones, garbarge, permits and the Adirondack Classic, known by most as “the 90 Miler” takes place annually on the weekend after Labor Day.
SARANAC LAKE HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS
The Fall Sports Parent/Athlete meeting will take place on Monday August 6th 6:30pm in the High School Auditorium. All Modified, JV and Varsity athletes need to attend. The paperwork needed to participate will be available at this time. There will be a general meeting followed by team meetings. Start dates for fall sports are:

ADIRONDACK CHILL 16U SOFTBALL
We have an update from the Adirondack Chill 16U softball team.. They traveled toSaratogaover the weekend to compete in the 16-team Thunder Invitational and finished the weekend with a 3-2 record and 5th place overall.
The girls ended up being seeded 7th heading into single elimination on Sunday. Facing the 10th seeded Hoosic Valley Indians, Olivia Jaques again had a strong outing allowing just 2 runs on 6 hits while walking 4 and striking out 2 winning that game 3-2. Sydney Battistoni and Jordy McDougall had 2 hits each and Nicole Viscardo had the only other hit.
The girls faced the undefeated Lansingburgh Royals next and played good ball but fell 6-2. Serina Hayes led the Chill offensively and defensively. She went 3-for-4 at bat and pulled off 2 unassisted double plays. Viscardo also had 2 hits in the game while Jordy McDougall, Carissa Kennedy, Jen McGuoirk and Brittany Woodruff added 1 hit each.
The girls are scheduled to play the Northern Devils 18U team on Thursday at 6 pm at the Jim Kordziel Athletic Fields before travelling to CliftonParkon Friday to compete in the Miss Shen Invitational.
Captain Cooks and Romanos both appear to have had an easy time of it in their playoff contests yesterday… Cooks beat Waterhole 14 to 1 and Grizzle T’s beat their Romano’s 16 to 2… They lead the best 2 out of three now each 1 to nothing and it looks now like Capt Cooks will take on Grizzle T’s in the finals when all is said and done..
