The Adirondack Chill 16U softball team went one and one in a rain shortened tournament in Clifton Park. The Chill defeated the Mid-Hudson Rebels in their opener 6-4. Sydney Battistoni led the offense with a 3-for-4 performance. Nicole Viscardo had 2 hits. Serina Hayes, Jordy McDougall, Haley Brandes, Jen McGuoirk and Olivia Jaques added one hit each. Hayes was the winning pitcher scattering 5 hits and striking out 3. Viscardo picked up the save. In the 2nd game, The team fell to the Electric City Bombers Elite 10-1. Battistoni again had the hot bat going 2-for-3. McDougall, Hayes, Viscardo and Jaques each had one hit. Jaques was the losing pitcher. The 3rd pool play game and all of Sundays championship rounds were cancelled due to rain and field conditions leaving the Chill in 14th place out of 21 teams based on 2 games played. The Chill ends their season this weekend competing in the Vermont State Championships in Georgia, VT competing against 9 Vermont teams.
It’s Championship Week at the Blackfly softball fields in Saranac Lake.. Captain Cooks lead 5-1 in top of 7th when Grizle T’s scored 4 to tie the score, Cooks scored 1 in bottom of the 7th to win the game. They lead the best of 5 championships 1-0. SATURDAY NIGHT ICE SHOWS
The 2012 summer skating continues this weekend, Aug. 3-4, with Friday’s Freaky Friday and the Saturday Night Ice Show at the Olympic Center, in Lake Placid, N.Y. Friday’s Freaky Friday event begins at 4:30 p.m., while the Saturday night’s show is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m. Both events will be held in the center’s 1932 Rink Jack Shea Arena. Agness Zawadzki, a two-time world junior medalist, is Saturday night’s featured skater. Zawadzki (Plaines, Ill.) is also a 2010 junior U.S. national champion and the 2012 U.S. senior bronze medalist. Joining Zawadzki will be skaters participating in the 80th annual summer skating program. The skaters will perform their individual and group numbers during this entertaining event. Admission to the show is $10 for adults, $8 for juniors and seniors. Children six and under may enter for free. The ever-popular Freaky Friday show will also feature skaters from the summer skating program, who create their own unique routines for this event. The skaters abandon their regular routines in favor of creativity, humor and amusement. The routines are judged on entertainment value. Admission is free.
