Does Your Homeowners Insurance Cover Water and Sewer Lines to the Street?

Homeowners in the Adirondacks may be receiving letters soliciting customers to purchase insurance on water and sewer lines. Mary Casagrain is the Village of Tupper Lake’s Clerk – She says most property owners already have coverage for their water and sewer lines that run from their house to the main line included in their homeowners insurance..  “Unfortunately [Village of Tupper Lake] customers are getting confused thinking that [The Village of Tupper Lake] is encouraging them to buy that insurance.” Casagrain said at last night’s village board meeting.” I would encourage any local taxpayer or resident that received that mailing to contact their own insurance company to see if they’ve got coverage for it already.”

Village Mayor Paul Maroun told the board he’s seen the letter and commented that the arrangement is between the homeowner and the insurance company but that residents should be aware that flyers are being sent out and they should inquire on their own.
