ECAC Hockey announces their return to the 1980 Herb Brooks Arena inLake Placid… The Olympic Regional Development Authority and the ECAC organization have reached a three year agreement to conduct the annual men’s ECAC championship inLake Placid.
The Hockey Conference includes 12 of the nations most competitive college ice hockey programs in the nation.. Steve Hagwell is ECAC Hockey Commissioner.. He says “Lake Placid has always been one of the special hockey places in theUnitedState… The combination of the warm welcome from the surrounding community, aura of the venue, and general support will be easily abosorbed by fans and students alike.” And he continues by saying “The location serves as a prime choice for enhancing the overall student-athlete experience.”
If you’ve never been in the 1980 rink, it’s one of three ice surfaces at the Olympic Center, including theUSArink just behind the arena, and the 1932 rink across from the new convention center. Some of the premier teams on the roster will include Clarkson, Cornell, Harvard, and St Lawrence University, along with Brown andPrincetonUniversities,Rensselaerand Quinnipac to name just a few.. all vying for the annual championship.
The 1980 Rink was renamed after Coach Herb Brooks in 2005, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Gold Medal Victory over Russia.
