Friendship Volunteer Training Program in Saranac Lake

Lake Placid—Mercy Care for the Adirondacks is recruiting new volunteers and has scheduled a Friendship Volunteer Training Program in Saranac Lake on the mornings of October 3 and 10, 2012. (Both mornings are required to complete the training).

New Volunteers will join Mercy Care’s 70+ Friendship Volunteers from Tupper Lake, Saranac Lake, and Lake Placid who are helping elders stay connected to their communities. If you are able to give some of your time to make elders’ lives a little happier, help them enjoy their community more, or make things somewhat easier for them to live independently, please consider becoming a Mercy Care Friendship Volunteer.

Anyone in the Tri-Lakes area who is interested in becoming a Mercy Care Friendship Volunteer is invited to take the training in Saranac Lake.

Mercy Care’s Friendship Volunteer Training Program is free of charge but pre-registration is required. To request registration information, please contact Sheila Schneck at Mercy Care by calling 523-5583. Volunteers of all faiths are encouraged and invited to participate.

The mission of Mercy Care for the Adirondacks, sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy, is to extend mercy to elders in order to enhance the fullness of their lives. Mercy Care Friendship Volunteers help to relieve isolation and loneliness of their elder neighbors.

We are learning together that all members of our community are our neighbors, especially those most in need of our love, friendship, and companionship. Each of us probably knows a family member, friend, or neighbor who today or in the future may need comfort or assistance from a Mercy Care Friendship Volunteer.

Mercy Care for the Adirondacks is governed by a local board of directors and relies on grants and charitable gifts from individuals and businesses for its support. Board members include: Paul J. Reiss, Ph.D., President, Sr. M. Camillus O’Keefe, Vice-President, Jeremiah Hayes, Frank Lescinsky, Sr. M. Carolyn Madden, Jack McGill, Bill O’Reilly, Ben Peets, Barbara Rottier, Margaret Sorensen, Francis C. Varga, M.D., Sr. M. Denise Wilke, and Fr. John Yonkovig.
