There’s a new Mountain Biking Initiative in Lake Placid and Wilmington, The organization is called BETA – and according to Saranac Lake Village Trustee Paul Van Cott, they’re doing a lot of work on the concept of building mountain biking trails in Saranac Lake.. The group has a meeting scheduled with the DEC shortly to discuss the Saranac Lake wild forest Unit Management Plan and VanCott says Mountain Biking is thought of as a potential Tourist Opportunity for our Community.. He thinks it’s a good idea and the group is paving the way for further mountain biking opportunities in our area..
One of those opportunities includes the design of a trail between Dewey Mountain and Mount Pisgah.. Mt Pisgah’s General Manager, Charlie Martin has been spearheading those discussions.. He says they’re working on an idea to connect Mt Pisgah and Dewey Mountain with a Cross Country / Mountain Bike Trail which would pass Upstate Auto, over to Ampersand Bay and up to Dewey.. Mt Pisgah is working on developing new activities for the facility and over the years, there’s been a visible trend to provide opportunities for training, for youth, and for concepts and uses on the mountain beyond alpine skiing… Two organizations in particular are actively helping in the process.. BETA and the students at BOCES who have designed plans to clear more skiing in glades on both the north and south sides of the ski hill.. The Village Board voted unanimously at Monday’s regular board meeting in Saranac Lake to approve work by the students at BOCES to assist with this project..
