Trudeau Institute Welcomes New Board Members

The board of trustees of the Trudeau Institute has announced the election of two new members, Daniel P. Leff and Robert A. Curtis.

Dan Leff serves as Chief Executive Officer at Hara, an enterprise software company providing energy and sustainability solutions to a global clientele; he also serves on the firm’s board of directors. Mr. Leff has 30 years of extensive operating

experience building, leading and transforming global energy services businesses and previously served as an Advisory Partner at Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, a New York City and London based private equity firm. At Invensys plc, a worldwide manufacturing and services company, Mr. Leff co-led a turnaround as co-Chief Operating Officer and as COO of the Energy Management Division. Before joining Invensys, he was selected to be chairman and CEO of Enron Energy Services by the creditor-appointed management team to help lead the parent corporation following its 2001 bankruptcy filing. Earlier he was COO of Enron Energy Services and additionally led the restructuring of the parent company’s international power plant and pipeline engineering and construction business. Mr. Leff previously founded a forward-looking energy services company, which he sold to Enron in 1997. Prior to that he operated, acquired and sold a New York City-based energy services company. Mr. Leff holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Union College, Schenectady, N.Y. He presently serves on the boards of Viridity Energy and Lake Placid Sport Forum; he previously served as a director of the Lake Placid-based National Sports Academy and the YMCA Camping Services Council of Greater New York. Mr. Leff resides in Lake Placid with his family.

 

A resident of Mashpee, Mass., Robert Curtis is principal of Curtis Consulting & Communications LLC. From 2007 until earlier this year, Dr. Curtis was chief executive officer of Regional Technology Development Corporation of Cape Cod (RTDCC), a nonprofit organization established by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to stimulate the technology-based economic

development of marine, environmental and healthcare technologies from local research institutions. While there, he led efforts to identify early-stage technologies developed by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and the Marine Biological Laboratory using a proactive model for technology transfer and business development.
Dr. Curtis has extensive experience raising venture capital and leading commercialization efforts to bring new technologies to market. Prior to joining RTDCC, he worked on a series of overlapping assignments, serving as a consulting or founding executive, among them, HistoRx Inc., a tissue proteomics technology firm he co-founded, serving as the firm’s president and CEO. He also co-founded and served as a consultant to Cape Aquaculture Technologies and Lion Pharmaceuticals & Phoenix Discovery. He began his career at Pfizer in clinical research and later in the licensing and development of new products and technologies covering all therapeutic categories.
Dr. Curtis earned a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and an M.B.A. from Columbia University.
