Thanksgiving dinner at the Adult Center in Saranac Lake is now in it’s third year and going strong. Each Year the Free dinner is provided with sponsorship and funding provided by St Joe’s Addiction Treatment and Recovery Center, The Carpenter Foundation, and The Women’s Civic Chamber. The Meal was free and included delivery to the local area.
There’s a group of Ladies in the Kitchen at the Adult Center and they’re taking advantage of a lull in the buffet traffic to clean and organize and the kitchen is basically spotless after more than a hundred dinners served so far. Cathleen Baker lives in Saratoga, she’s visiting her sister with her family and has been recruited to be one of the delivery volunteers.
The Volunteers delivered more than 90 Thanksgiving meals and an additional set of meals to the Police Department and the Fire Station. Outside, Thanksgiving Day is a warm day and it’s mid afternoon when we arrived to speak with the volunteers. They’re an organized group and the kitchen is almost spotless after the noon rush but the buffet line is in place ready for as many more meals as they can serve until 4pm – first on the list is of course the Turkey. Josh and Clair have taken the mid afternoon shift cleaning dishes, afterwards, once they finish their shift, they’ll get together with friends and other younger people in town.
