An Alumni Hockey game forLake Placid’s Blue Bombers is well attended in the 1932 Rink at the Olympic Center on Wednesday… It’s organizer is Lake Placid Senior Ryan Grady who created the concept for his senior project.. He’s been the manager of the Hockey Team inLake Placidfor his entire middle high school career and Coach Keith Clark says he crossed every T and dotted all the eyes really well. Plus he’s taken a real leadership role in the project..
Ryan says the roster has been full for a few weeks but as usual there were a few people who couldn’t make it for one reason or another but luckily he had a waiting list of about 4 or five.. The final count, 38 Lake Placid Alumni Hockey Players..
Smiley had a prepared speech that he read just before the game.. He read it again for us.. It starts with “Hello Everyone, Thank you for coming to this event…” The event raised a little over $640 with donations and entries from the players and estimated there were about 200 people in attendance to watch the game who were there to support the effort and to enjoy the game..
Brook Reid and Natalia Smith are two of the spectators in the 1932 rink.. Brook’s Dad is on the Gold team and Natalia’s Older Brother is on the Blue Team…
Butch Martin is coaching the Gold team…
Butch says Smiley’s talked about this game since last summer, it was his job and he did it all.. and now it will hopefully turn into an annual event..
Cal Lewis Coaches the Blue Team – He used to coach the Blue Bombers so not only are there alumni Players but also 35 years of coaching Alumni on hand for the fundraiser..
Just in case you hadn’t put the two together,Calis Nicole’s Dad – She was at the game with her kids and a few friends who wouldn’t let me interview them so they’ll remain nameless. But back to the game.. Congratulations to Ryan Grady for a job well done..
