Annexing AMA – The Public Hearing “For the Record”

The Town of St Armand, and The Village of Saranac Lake are considering a petition requesting Annexation of 68 Acres owned by The American Management Association to the Village of Saranac Lake…

AUDIO – 012413 – AMA Annexation Hearing

In order just to consider the request, both the town and the village must hear evidence in a public hearing suggesting that the request serves the public interest and so the process begins Wednesday evening in the Auditorium in the Harrietstown Town Hall.. Sometimes Public Discussion and Debate is engaging and community members are able to speak passionately about their opinions on one issue or another.. In this case, however, the best example of why even the simplest of ideas in government sometimes takes ten years to actually accomplish.. Put Three Lawyers, One Town Board, One Village Board, One Stenographer, a Whiteboard, Witnesses, one at a time at the Witness table and question after repetitive question, just to get it all on the public record – And the Role call, again for the public record, at the beginning of the hearing felt more like a tenth grade homeroom..

The estimated value of the AMA property – including new homes will reach $6,000,000.00 resulting in a tax winfall for the Village of Saranac Lake near $75,000.  Village Treasurer Paul Ellis details the numbers in our report
