Comprehensive Plan heads to the Public for Comment

AUDIO – 042313 – VSL Comprehensive Plan Public Hearing set for May 28th

The date is set.. The public is officially invited to a public hearing on Tuesday, May 28th, 5:30pm for a presentation of the Draft Comprehensive Plan for the village of Saranac Lake.. Trustee Ally Pellitiere says the draft is available at the village offices and also online at the village’s website..  The late date in May will allow an appropriate amount of time for the community to review the specifics, and perhaps focus on the portions of the plan that affect each particular district.. In addition, the Essex County Planning Board requires a 30 day window for review.

Saranac Lake 6er Hiking Sticks Presented to Village Board

AUDIO – 042313 – Saranac Lake Sixer Hicking Sticks

The Saranac Lake Village Board now has 4 hand carved hiking sticks compliments of Rick Gonyea who carved the hiking sticks to be used as prizes for the first three hikers to finish in the Saranac Lake Sixer Program..  Gonyea jokingly says he carved one specifically for a member of the press, Chirs Knight,  who started his career as a forest ranger and remains an avid hiker.. The program begins May 25th with sign in at 7am at the Berkley Green, Hiking starts at 8am with a celebration later in the day at 3pm for the first group of hikers to complete all 6 of the mountains in the Saranac Lake area, including McKenzie, Ampersand, Scarface, Haystack, St Regis, and Mt Baker..

Village Board Recognizes NCCC Student’s Accomplishment

AUDIO – 042313 – Mayor Honors NCCC Basketball team

Saranac Lake’s Mayor Clyde Rabideau honors the NCCC basketball team for their success..  The team’s Coach Chad LaDue and a few members of the team are on hand for the presentation..  Chad’s been coaching the basketball team for 11 years, he says one of the best things about this team is that 11 out of 14 on their roster were right in our backyard either from section ten or section seven..  There are 118 schools in their division and five athletes, including Steven Carder were selected to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) 1st Team All-American in basketball.  In honor of this accomplishment, Mayor Rabideau and the Village Board presented Steve with a special proclamation..

Steven leaves NCCC as the All-time leading scorer with 1,246 points and All-time leading rebounder with 652.  He and his parents will head to Las Vegas with Coach LaDue next week where he will be recognized and will participate in the NJCAA National Men’s Basketball All-Star game in Orleans Arena in Las Vegas on May 11th.

Public Hearing Tonight in Tupper

The Tupper Lake Emergency Services Building Committee holds their final public information meeting tonight and it appears as though additional taxes may be held to a reasonable Figure.
