Tupper Lake Residents Consider Emergency Services Relocation

AUDIO – 042413 – Tupper Lake EMS Building Informational Meeting

Residents of Tupper Lake are presented with a proposed multi-use emergency services building for EMS, Tupper Lake Police and Fire..  Consultant Shawn Foran says the committee started back in January of 2012.. Looking at locations, and possible types of building projects.  Foran is Director of Huber Brewer’s Division of Fire Protective Services based in Syracuse New York..  he says there doesn’t seem to be a huge debate on whether or not a new facility is needed but started by looking at some of the basic requirements that are not being being met by the existing station..  Trustee Hadge Maroun has been an active member of the fire department and he says he thought the presentation went well..  The Committee did their homework, and looked into every nook and cranny, and the time has come for a new station.. One thing that became clear during the public information forum is that legislators will be committing to 1.3 Million dollars in grants, but if the vote is largely in favor of the project, as opposed to a 51 to 49 vote, elected officials will be more inclined to add even more grant funding which will bring the estimated impact to the taxpayer down even more..  The Mandatory Referendum is scheduled for May 7th from noon to nine pm at the Goff Nelson Library – If the vote passes, Tupper lake could have a new multi use police, EMS, and fire station by 2014..
