School District Voting Today

Budget Votes and School Board Elections are today. Saranac Lake 7am-8pm. Tupper Lake 12n-8pm. Lake Placid 2pm-9pm. Tupper’s School Board needs approval from 60% of voters for their budget to pass because the budget exceeds the tax cap.

Local School Board Elections May 21st

AUDIO – 052013 – School Board Budget Votes and Elections Tomorrow

Budget Votes and School Board Elections are tomorrow -  In Saranac Lake, the vote takes place in the district offices at SaranacLakeHigh School from 7am until 8pm…  Candidates in Saranac Lake include Incumbents Esther Arlan, and Clyde Baker.. Tracey Schrader and Shir Filler are also vying for the two available seats on the board..  The School Board is asking the community to approve a budget which approaches $28 Million Dollars..  an increase of 2.91%.

Two seats are also available on Lake Placid’s School Board. There are three candidates, John Hopkinson is the Boards Appointee and has served on the school board for just over a year, He’s seeking to retain his seat for another three year term. Two other candidates, Rick Preston, and Jennifer Tufano are vying for one of the two seats on the board. The Lake Placid School Board is asking voters to approve a budget of $17,264,976.00   One resolution on the ballot ask residents to allow the district to apply for an additional 10% in state building aid.. Board president Mary Deitrich says this resolution is a win win..  Polls in Lake Placid will be open from 2pm until 9pm…

In Tupper Lake, The school board has proposed a budget that will exceed the state’s 2% tax cap..  The Property Tax Levy would increase by 8.35% and includes a spending increase of 7.64% to just over $17,000,000 dollars, up from $16,000,009 in 2012..  Voting In Tupper Lake will take place at the Middle High School from Noon until 8pm Tomorrow and will require a “Super Majority” of 60% of voters voting in favor of the increase in order for it to pass.
