School District Voting Today

Budget Votes and School Board Elections are today – Two seats are open on Lake Placid’s School Board. There are three candidates, John Hopkinson is the Boards Appointee and has served on the school board for just over a year, He’s seeking to retain his seat for another three year term. The Board is guaranteed to have at least one new member, the second available seat was vacated by the Board’s Vice President Janet Smith. Rick Preston, and Jennifer Tufano have both placed their names in the running along with Hopkinson for the two open seats on the board. As for the Finances.. The Lake Placid School Board is asking voters to approve a budget of $17,264,976.00   One resolution on the ballot ask residents to allow the district to apply for an additional 10% in state building aid..  The resolution appears on the ballot following the Budget numbers…  Polls in Lake Placid will be open from 2pm until 9pm…

In Tupper Lake, The school board has proposed a budget that will exceed the state’s 2% tax cap..  The Property Tax Levy would increase by 8.35% and includes a spending increase of 7.64% to just over $17,000,000 dollars, up from $16,000,009 in 2012..  Voting In Tupper Lake will take place at the MiddleHigh School from Noon until 8pm Tuesday and will require a “Super Majority” of 60% of voters voting in favor of the increase in order for it to pass.

In Saranac Lake, the vote takes place in the district offices at Saranac Lake High School from 7am until 8pm…  Candidates in Saranac Lake include Incumbents Esther Arlan, and Clyde Baker.. along with Shir Filler and Tracey Schrader. The four are vying for two available seats on the board..  The School Board is asking the community to approve a budget which approaches $28 Million Dollars..  an increase of 2.91%.
