If you’re looking for a fun and educational way to “horse around” this summer, then you’ll want to check out the 21st annual Horse Club Junior Day, sponsored by Hannaford Supermarkets, at the Lake Placid Horse Shows, presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC., on Friday, July 5 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 pm. This special event invites local Pony Clubbers, 4-H members and riding clubs to participate in a fun-filled day at the horse shows, which return to the heart of the Adirondack Mountains at the North Elba Showgrounds, June 25 – July 7.
“Every Grand Prix champion, every Olympian, every talented professional at any horse show started as a young student eager to learn,” said Richard M. Feldman, Chairman of the Lake Placid Horse Show Association. “They all worked hard, and learned from their teachers. If Horse Club Junior Day can help inspire and teach a child, then who knows, maybe one day we’ll see them competing in our Grand Prix, or even working as our show veterinarian, farrier or course designer!”
The day includes activities such as a stable tour, jumper course walk, farrier visit, and question-and-answer period. There will also be a raffle, giveaways, and an autograph session with a top Grand Prix rider. The day continues a long-standing tradition of the Lake Placid Horse Shows giving back to the local community.
The cost to attend the event is $5.00 per participant; lunch is included. There is no entry fee for chaperones; however, there will be a fee of $4.00 per chaperone if they choose to eat with the participants. Reservations are on a first come, first serve basis. Participants must belong to a local 4-H group, pony club or riding club. Horse Club Junior Day supporters include Hannaford Supermarkets, Crossroads Caterers, Bluesberry Bakery, Woodlea Farms, and Marty Bauman of Classic Communications.
Horse Club Junior Day, is limited to a maximum of 100 participants. Entry forms may be obtained by contacting the horse show office at (518) 523-9625 or at http://www.lakeplacidhorseshow.com/events.html.
For those who are not members of a 4-H group or pony club, taking a guided walking tour of the horse show is a great alternative and it gives access to many exciting behind-the-scenes activities. Guided walking tours cost just $1.00 per person and are held Wednesday-Friday each week.
