Lake Placid’s Schools are preparing for the implementation of their Energy Savings Capital Contract.. An initiative on the Ballot in May which was approved by voters increased state aid to 29.9 per cent of the project and includes replacement of a cooling tower and a boiler at the Elementary School along with other energy saving improvements to the facilities in the district.. The total cost of the project is just over $731,000, with all but $52,609 paid for by the state and the balance guaranteed in annual energy cost savings by MCW who will be working on 19 different projects as part of their contract..
The School Board also has an update from Catania at Tuesday’s Meeting on other capital expenditures, including technology.. In addition to 6 Ipads purchased for use throughout the school, There are 9 foreign language Ipads which were purchased through grants secured by Olaf Carlson a teacher in the program.. The new wireless network has been installed – an investment of about $35,000.. Of the technology capital expenditures, $125,000 is reimbursed through BOCES aid – which returns $38,000 back to the district for investment in the future..
Lake Placid’s School District has received approval for an $80,000 grant from the State Education Department in response to the “Focus School” funding and the money is going towards professional development for teachers and summer curriculum work.. The funding from State Ed is essentially in response to the states request for teachers to update their lesson plans and will pay for them to work through the summer to make that happen..
