IRONMAN Lake Placid –

IRONMAN kicks into high gear this weekend with a full lineup of entrants into one of the original IRONMAN events in the country… It’s the longest running American event aside from the World Championships in Hawaii..  The race’s Economic Impact on the region is highlighted in a recent report published by The IRONMAN Experience Committee, and The Lake Placid Business Association…  Linda Moore is Chair of the Committee and her husband, Gregg, is also participating in this year’s event..


The IRONMAN Foundation Community Fund this year is giving $55,000 in grant funding to non-profit groups in the greater Lake Placid community..  A total of over one point five Million Dollars has been given by the foundation since the first IRONMAN Lake Placid triathalon in 1999. The Foundation is donating $5,000 to the Lake PlacidCentralSchool to support a technology project to better equip classrooms with new digital classroom projectors in elementary schools. Additionally, with many of the first responders (Police, Fire and EMS) being volunteer based, the Foundation has allocated an additional $10,000 in donations to the volunteer departments across the region. IRONMAN Lake Placid includes a rolling start and a two loop swim in MirrorLake which kicks off at 6:30am on Sunday.. The transition opens at 4am and closes at 6am to prepare for the start of the race..  the Cut Off for the swim is two hours and twenty minutes after the last swimmer enters the water..   The Bike portion of the triathalon takes cyclists twice through the surrounding hills of the Adirondacks with a final 11 mile climb through the notch from Wilmington back to the transition area at the speed skating oval and the run portion is also a two loop course passing the ski jumps and to the turnaround on River Road and through lake placid..  The final cutoff is Midnight on Sunday evening…
