The New Health Care Exchanges are due to open October First and its effects are becoming more visible every day as hospitals like Adirondack Medical Center adjust for the changing world of Health Care in the United States.. One Major trend according to Adirondack Health’s Chief Operating Officer Cynthia McGuire is a new initiative focusing on long term health including Coordination of care and working with patients to maintain their level of health and quality of life on an outpatient basis..
Some of this new focus is represented by the opening of the Saranac Lake Health Center, which officially opened it’s doors with a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday afternoon and a community health fair. McGuire tells us the health centers are participating with a number of other hospitals in the region as part of a model demonstration program to gauge the success of the changing need of patients in rural communities and the new focus on Medical Home care. McGuire continued by saying it’s important for residents and visitors to have efficient and low cost access to care, and they have several initatives under way at Adirondack Health that are focused on Primary care and using the system more efficiently.. .
Katy VanAnden is Executive Director of the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. She welcomed the health care center on behalf of the community saying it’s a vital part of the infrastructure of Saranac Lake..
The health center is located in Adirondack Health’s Medical Office Building on 285 Old Lake Colby Road on the second floor of the medical office building above the Wound Care and Hyperbaric Treatment Center.
