5 Candidates Running Against Lantigua In Lawrence Mayor’s Race

LAWRENCE — The mayoral race is expected to draw a large turnout of voters in Lawrence.

Five candidates hope to unseat incumbent mayor William Lantigua, the first elected Latino mayor in the city’s history.

Candidate State Rep. Marcos Devers is a former supporter of Lantigua, but has recently been disappointed with Lantigua’s performance.

“His administration has been engaged in situations that are doubtful, situations that are embarrassing,” Devers told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.

These situations negatively impacted the city of Lawrence’s image, according to City Councilor Daniel Rivera, who is also running for mayor.

“I think people were really let down,” Rivera said.

Other candidates for mayor include accountant Nestor DeJesus, firefighter Manny Gonzales, and inventor James O’Donoghue.
