All Quiet At Brooklyn DA’s Office A Day After Hynes Loses Re-Election Bid

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – It’s the end of an era for Kings County District Attorney Charles Hynes, one day after losing the primary in his re-election bid.

As WCBS 880′s Irene Cornell reported, the Brooklyn DA’s office was a dismal place on Wednesday.

The longtime DA lost by a large margin to Democratic primary challenger Kenneth Thompson in Tuesday’s election.

The loss came as a shock to those in the DA’s office, Cornell reported. Hynes expected the race to be close but did not anticipate that he’d be blown out.

Thompson, a lawyer best known for representing the maid in the sex assault scandal involving former International Monetary Fund leader Dominique Strauss-Kahn, won the Democratic nomination for Brooklyn district attorney Tuesday, unseating Hynes after 24 years.

Unofficial election results show Thompson beat Hynes by 10 points, 55 percent to 45 percent.

No sitting DA had been voted out of office in New York City since 1955, Cornell reported.
