“We’ve known of Afternic for a really long time and we thought these guys were the best in the world at what they do,” Irving said.

Irving says the domain name market is much like the automobile market place with new and used cars.

“Well there are domains that are previously owned or currently owned and we wanted to combine those two things,” Irving said. “It just made sense for the companies to join hands and move forward.”

Irving says he expects an evolution in domain names where there is a lot of new availability.

“I do think people are going to be able to align themselves with names that really matter to them and that hasn’t been the case,” he says.

With the new availability, individuals or businesses will be able to find domains that perfectly fit their business.

Go Daddy says Afternic will stay put in Waltham.
