PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (CBS) — A Maine man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly broke through the back door of a Portsmouth home early Sunday morning, assaulted two people and beat dog with a club or pipe, the police said in a prepared statement.
At about 1:30 a.m., Portsmouth Police officers were dispatched to a reported home invasion in the Maple Haven neighborhood of the city. The officers discovered a man and woman who live in the home had been injured and they were taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital, where they were treated and released Sunday.
Terrence Hartley, 47, with a last known address of Tardiff Road in Clinton, Maine, was arrested at the scene. He faces charges including one felony count of burglary, five felony counts of first-degree assault, one felony count of possession of a controlled drug (cocaine), and one misdemeanor count of cruelty to animals, the police said.
Hartley was held on $125,000 cash bail and faces arraignment in Portsmouth Circuit Court on Monday.
