NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — Police in Newark were searching early Monday morning for a gunman who opened fire on officers during a chase, according to a published report.
Officers were chasing an armed suspect near Clinton Avenue and South 10th Street around 7 p.m. Sunday, when a suspect fired at officers, Newark police told the Star-Ledger.
Officers returned fire, but the suspect ran off, police told the newspaper.
None of the officers was injured, the newspaper reported.
Following the shooting, a SWAT team was dispatched, along with New Jersey State Police and Essex County Prosecutor’s office teams, the newspaper reported. A helicopter was also reportedly sent out.
The suspect remained at large as of shortly after midnight Monday morning.
