Arise Chairman Jim LaValley spoke with volunteers under the red and white striped tent at P2s in Tupper Lake on Friday about the possibility of re-opening Big Tupper for skiing this winter.. This year, he says, they need to open with a different approach, one which doesn’t include committing to season ticket sales before the ski season is under way..
The organization as always is dealing with the question of time for volunteers and the ARISE board has named Steve Stevenson as Coordinator of the volunteer effort, all of the information will flow through Steve when it comes to Operations, Insurance, Maintenance, Ski Lifts, Grooming and general day to day management. He’ll report to ARISE Chair Jim LaValley.
The planned opening of Big Tupper for the Ski Season this winter was announced at a special meeting of volunteers on Friday afternoon in Tupper Lake.. A unanimous show of hands from the group in support of opening the mountain weather permitting.. Tickets will not be sold in advance and weather permitting, when they do go on sale, the no frills price for a day pass will be $25.00.. The ARISE board is also considering some additional discounted passes for kids, groups and multiple purchases once the season gets underway..
