Buffalo Business First Reports on North Country Schools

Buffalo Business First Ranks 429 School Districts in Upstate New York. And Lake Placid’s Superintendent Roger Catania says their district ranks 2nd among Plattsburgh Area Schools in Academic Rank..  As for cost effectiveness – Catania says the numbers tend to reflect often the size of the districts..  Catania also congratulates two teachers in the district. Two teachers are selected for the New York State Masters Teachers Program.. math Teachers Cammy Casey and Kasandra Mariano – Catania says The’ll work  as peer mentors to work with pre-service teachers particularly with Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM)

The following database contains Business First’s 2013 academic rankings of 429 school districts across Upstate New York.

Business First rated each district on its performance in 168 statistical categories, all tied to students’ test scores or graduation rates.

The database shows each district’s Upstate academic rank, its percentile (the percentage of other Upstate districts that it outperforms academically), its K-12 enrollment and its 2011 expenditures. The latter two statistics are the latest figures available from the New York State Education Department.

It should be noted that the enrollment and expenditure figures did not have any impact on the academic rankings. They’re simply presented here as additional pieces of information.

The designation reflects a 168 part formula used to generate the rankings, based on four years of standardized testing. The tests ranged from statewide exams for third graders in English and Math up to the full array of Regents exams for high schoolers. Lake Placid scored second highest in the region after Chazy. Last year, Lake Placid ranked 3rd in the region and in 2011 were 4th..

District Superintendent Roger Catania reported on several specific items from the report.; Lake Placid is 24th in student access.. reflecting a favorable student to teacher ration and Lake Placid ranked 34th in Socioeconomic Climate.
