Good Marks for Lake Placid’s Athletic Programs

Good Marks and Success of the Lake PlacidHigh School Athletics Programs…  At a recent School Board Meeting, Lake Placid School Superintendent Roger Catania took his time to congratulate several teams for their success in the fall and to look forward to winter sports..Catania mentioned the new athletic contract which was put in place for the 2013 school year. The contract designed to help student athletes understand the importance of a focus on both education and athletics… He highlighted the low percentage of students, 10 actually, who were affected punatively in some way by the contract, whether for poor grades, or lack of attendance, or other poor decision making..  Student’s Catania says, need an overall experience which is why extracurricular activities are important..  Helmsley, who coaches the Soccer team in Lake Placid was in attendance at the meeting along with his partner in Soccer, Twigg McGlinn  to speak with the board about his efforts to create a soccer club in Lake Placid ….They’re developing a local competitive soccer club called FC Freeze… The two are also planning a new Soccer Tournament in the second week of July, they hope to create a format similar to Rugby Weekend and Lacrosse starting with the North Elba Fields and if possible expanding to other locations as the event grows year to year..
