Tupper Lake’s Fire Chief Carl Steffen says even though equipment upkeep and maintenance is over budget, there are more repairs that need attention and it’s time for someone to step up and take charge.. He presented the Village board with a list of maintenance issues associated with their two pumper trucks.. Trustee Rick Donah says when he took over the job of fire commissioner he investigated the responsibilities of individuals at the department.. and he believes it is the Fire Chief’s responsibility along with the rest of the directors. Trustee Tom Snyder said it’s good to see some action being taken..
One of the items which is causing headaches for the department is $750 project to replace the shock mounts on one of the pumper’s water tanks.. We asked the Chief to help us understand what those were..The Department has also been offered another pumper truck.. Chief Steffen says they’re headed to have a closer look at the truck over the weekend..
There appeared to be no official motion by the board to transfer funds for additional maintenance but all of the board members were in agreement that there were funds available that could be transferred and that the repair work had clearly become a priority that needed to be completed..
