Tupper Lake’s Chamber may have a new location come the first of the year…. Free Press Owner Dan McClelland has taken over as the Chamber’s President and he asked the Town Board about the possibility of moving the Chamber into the two vacant offices in the basement of the Town Hall.. McClelland sighted small numbers and a small budget, asking that the chamber be given a break on the rent which he says has become difficult for them to pay while on Main Street. “The heat alone in one month will exceed the annual rent charged by the Town”
He continued by saying a possible move by the Chamber to the Town Hall would be the first step in the town moving into the marketing and promotion area.. McClelland was also reporting for his local paper at the meeting. He continued by saying a move would put the chamber right in the middle of the community and that he had tried to get the chamber board to approve a move to the train station but they didn’t like that idea. McClelland also suggested that the Chamber shouldn’t be participating in tourism marketing but rather that the members pay for the chamber to promote their business. The Town Board was enthusiastic about supporting the chamber’s efforts and showed a willingness to provide the space once the chamber’s lease on Main Street ended.. The Board voted unanimously in favor of working with the Chamber.. providing them with the two offices in the basement of the Town Hall next.. The Chamber’s Rent – $2,000 annually..
