Governor Visits North Country’s Downhill Grill

Governor Cuomo made a stop in Saranac Lake on Sunday to highlight the work of the Regional Economic Development Council in the region…  He was in Dunkirk earlier in the day and stopped for a mid afternoon presentation at the Downhill Grill, on Main Street in Saranac Lake..   Ken Lawless is Co-Owner of the Downhill Grill, he says the whole thing came together in less than a day and he complimented the Governor’s staff for their ability to help coordinate the event coming together so quickly, Less than 24 hours in fact.  Lawless says all of the tables and chairs were cleared to make space for Governor Cuomo’s visit and they brought their own items for the governor’s presentation. Saranac Lake resident Carol Reyell was there when the Governor arrived, she said there was a lot of energy in the room and they all squeezed in to hear the Governor speak about the REDC and it’s a testament to the North Country, especially Saranac Lake that this is all coming together.  Janet Simkins is a resident and a friend of Fred Roedell, She told us they both drove six hours to be at the event for the Governor. The Roedells will be the recipients of $5 Million towards renovation of the Hotel Saranac which they recently purchased. Governor Cuomo spoke about the importance of the North Country Regional Economic Development Council being named “Top Performer”  Lenny Barker says everyone’s in agreement that the investment in the Hotel Saranac along with construction of a new hotel on Lake Flower will be a huge benefit to business and residents in the community..  Following the presentation, the Governor returned to the airport and back to his home.. He had been touring the state visiting locations receiving funding as part of the Regional Economic Development Council Competition.
