The Lake Placid Center for the Arts’ annual Joy to the Children benefit is (Tonight – December 5th, 2013) and has been a key component of the holiday season in Lake Placid for more than 27 years. The benefit will be attended by more than 500 people with all of the proceeds benefiting children’s programming at the LPCA.  “The Joy to the Children Benefit, has been the cornerstone of all of the LPCA Children’s programs for the last 25 years. Lisa Weibrecht started this fundraiser to specifically bring more cultural opportunities to the youth in our area. Now, the Benefit not only supports all of the LPCA arts outreach programs for youth, but has enabled LPCA to build a stronger base of additional supporters and foundations who share the Weibrecht’s commitment to the youth of our region.” The overwhelming success of Joy to the Children over the years is testimony to the community’s desire for, and awareness of, the importance for arts for children.

The LPCA this weekend also presents “The Nutcracker.” Experience the wonder of the holidays with young Claire on Christmas Eve as her Nutcracker Prince battles the Mouse King and she journeys to the Land of Sweets with the sugar Plum Fairy to be entertained by her magical subjects.  A delicious confection for both young and old, this classic holiday ballet features professional dances from NYC in the roles of Queen of the North, Sugar Plum Fairy, and Cavalier.

The Holiday Village Stroll is sponsored by the Lake Placid Business Association and includes the lighting of the Christmas Tree, the annual yule log hunt, the skating show, a special musical presentation from the Lake Placid Middle School Chorus and the Jingle Bell run on Saturday Morning…
