The first official public hearing for residents to voice their thoughts on the Lake Flower Lodging Project is held on Wednesday evening in the Harrietstown Town Hall… It’s also a first of it’s kind joint meeting between the Village of Saranac Lake and the Planning Board. We go to Community Development Director Jeremy Evans for a look at how it all works.. There are two Chairpeople of the first part of the joint meeting, Planning Board Chairwoman Leslie Karisan, and Saranac Lake Mayor Clyde Rabideau.. Evans, who has been intimately involved with the process and the proposal by Lake Flower Lodging LLC to build a 90 room hotel with a conference center capable of entertaining 200 people, an indoor and outdoor spa, and an 800 square foot 8 table attached restaurant and bar, along with another adjacent 1 story 3,500 square foot restaurant with 40 tables and a semi public deck and dock on Lake Flower.. Karisan presented the Village Board with a quick summary of the Planning Board’s report on the Sketch Plan for this project. Saranac Lake Village Trustee Allie Pelletiere suggested that there may be some fine tuning for the PUDD law when it comes to how the village board handles proposals for properties under 3 acres.. Pellitiere also commented that he’s not comfortable with construction being outsourced to somewhere outside of the region.. he says his concern is that the village went to bat to get taxpayer money through the village for them.. Also during the hearing itself, we heard mostly from residents in the region who were concerned about traffic flow, parking issues, and drainage..
Jacob Wright is one of the partners in the Lake Flower Hotel Project… We spoke with him about the project following the meeting. We asked Mr Wright about the question of parking spaces and the off site parking.. He commented that he believes the proposal meets the parking codes.. As for the Payment in Lieu of Taxes, Wright says they haven’t applied for any relief in taxes as of yet..
The Project Developers are seeing 4 or 5 specific recommendations now from the community, which Mayor Rabideau says they are most likely going to be able to work out with the Planning Board and the Village..
