Today on the K&J show, we’re speaking with Saranac Lake Mayor Clyde Rabideau about the “State of the Village” of Saranac Lake. The Mayor’s published State of the Village is headed to the paper for publication and our conversation begins with a look back at 2013. Mayor Rabideau says 2013 will go down as a good year in the history books. Governor Cuomo Announces $35 Million to promote a partnership between Trudeau Institute and Clarkson University fostering research and development in the region. The North Country Regional Economic Development Council has also been named Top Performer with two major hotel projects in Saranac Lake receiving a total of $7 Million towards renovation in one case and construction in the other. The Hotel Saranac project receives $5 Million for renovation and the Lake Flower Lodging Project is the recipient of $2 Million towards construction. The Mayor’s Saranac 6er Initiative has become a popular marketing initiative for tourism in the entire region and the Village has an ongoing relationship with the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism. Mayor Rabideau also says the village’s budget has remained below the tax cap and while there have been difficult decisions, the goal has always been to find ways to promote growth in the village while managing expenses to come to a common solution that will fit within the guidelines of the 2% tax cap.
