The local community poured into the Harrietstown Town Hall Monday Night to show their community spirit and support for the 7 local Olympic Athletes competing in the Winter Olympics in Sochi. Village Trustee Tom Catillaz is one of the local representatives on hand for the event..
The Town Hall is filled to capacity on level one and we had an opportunity to speak with Trustee Allie Pellitierie who was standing by the stage discussing the success of our local Olympians with Harrietstown Councilman Ron Keough.. Drew Benware is director of Choral Studies in the Saranac Lake Central School District and he’s standing with the majority of the members of his chorus from the school.. They’re preparing to sing the National Anthem as part of the event.. But Drew says, there’s more to this Chorus than many may be aware.. “Many of the Olympians were participants in this very chorus when they were in high school.” Benware said, “and they bring that enthusiasm back to the students who are currently in the program.”
Another sendoff comes from a group of young skiers from Dewey Mountain who have all come, flags in hand to support the Olympic Athletes in Sochi.. They’re seated on the floor in the town hall and are getting ready for the sendoff to begin..
Lake Placid’s Peter Frenette is in Sochi and his parents are headed there shortly.. We had an opportunity recently to speak with Peter about his roots in the sport and we understand on a trip to Whistler recently, Peter’s skis broke in flight and he had to borrow a pair from a Canadian friend. In addition to the Frenette’s there were many family members of the Olympic athletes, and on of those is Bill’s Mother Helen Demong…. Mayor Clyde Rabideau introduced Helen and asked her to speak about the experience..
Mayor Clyde Rabideau says they’ve been filming a special video which will be sent to the athletes along with everyone’s well wishes for the best of success in Sochi..
Andrew Weibrecht, Lowell Bailey, Bill Demong, Analise Cook, Peter Frenette, Tim Burke, and Chris Mazder.. All Looking for Gold at the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi and a Sendoff Rally in Saranac Lake wishing them all the best of success…
