The Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Kicks off with a special event sponsored every year by the Women’s Civic Chamber – It’s the Coronation of the Carnival Royalty and this year we arrived a little early and spoke with a few of the women in charge of this year’s festivities.. In the K&J show today, we’re talking with the Winter Carnival Court and their advisers as well as members of the Women’s Civic Chamber about the Coronation. Congratulations to This year’s Queen Dorothy Metz and the 2014 Winter Carnival King, Jeff Branch… One of their first responsibilities is to light the Ice Palace Saturday Night – which is where we found ourselves covering the event from the WNBZ news tent – where we had an opportunity to speak with a few members of the crowd who had come down for the event..
King Jeff Branch is a Member Of Elks Lodge, Knights of Columbus… He’s Served on the Government Restructuring Committee, and on the Comprehensive Plan Committee, He’s been a Village Trustee, the Deputy Mayor and he Works with Tri-lakes Humane Society, A little league and Pal Football Coach, He’s a Past CSEA President and President of the Saranac Lake Peewee Hockey Association. This year’s Queen is Dorothy Metz.. She Came to SaranacLake 50 years ago transferring from the New York Telephone Co. in Malone to the Office in Saranac lake after that she worked at the APA and retired in 1999. Dorothy has been involved with the Ecumenical Food Pantry for many years,The Ecumenical Lunch Box, The AdultCenter, St. Lukes’ Budget Box, she’s a Eucharistic Minister and Greeter at St. Bernard’s Church and also a member of the St. Bernard’s Hand Bell Choir, St. Bernard’s Altar and Rosary Society and she’s also a volunteer at AMC..
