The Lake Placid Sinfonietta is hosting a Big Band Bash Friday (February 28th) to support their free summer park concert series beginning on the Fourth of July and the following five Wednesday evenings in Mid’s Park in downtown Lake Placid. The proceeds will help close the gap between the expense of putting on these concerts and support received through sponsorship and grants. Appearing at the event will be the KC Big Band, directed by Bill Stokes featuring nineteen local musicians, The Adirondack Saxophones, and an appearance by the vocal ensemble, Voices of Experience.
Mary Dietrich is the event co-chair and she says it is “An indulgence in some of the greatest music ever played! Whether you grew up loving it, or came to appreciate the style recently, this is terrific, energetic and timeless music you can’t help but enjoy.”
The free Wednesday night park concerts draw large audiences and have been a mainstay of Lake Placid summers since 1974. While these concerts are free for the community to attend, they are expensive to produce; per-concert costs top $6,000.
In conjunction with this fundraiser, the Lake Placid Sinfonietta has also launched an Adirondack Gives campaign through the Adirondack Foundation called “LP Sinfonietta Park Concerts 2014” to raise funds specifically for the production costs of the park concerts such as transporting and renting equipment.
The event is being held at the Comfort Inn in Lake Placid this Friday Night at 8pm..
