Pendragon Considers Move Downtown

Pendragon Theatre is considering a move to downtown Saranac Lake…  Whether that’s feasible or not will be up to Huber Brewer.. a consulting firm the theatre would like to retain to explore the possibilities of moving the theatre the into downtown area.. Joe Dockery is a member of the Board at Pendragon.. He says the possibility of building a new theatre came to light with the prospects of renovating or repairing the roof in their current location…..

Dockery tells the Village Board during Monday Night’s meeting that he believes North Country Community College has expressed a possible interest in locating a theatre downtown and to build a community presence off campus… In addition, he says, there may also be an opportunity to add an associates degree in the arts with the credits potentially transferring to the four year program at SUNY Potsdam…  In order to go forward, Dockery says, they would like to enter into an agreement with the Consulting Firm Huber Brewer to look into the feasibility of locating a theater in the downtown..

The Pendragon Board has been looking inward to their board for the cost of the study and Dockery says while they’ll need help to fund the study, the people they’ve been speaking with are very positive about the concept..  and as for the study itself..

According to Dockery, Pendragon’s operation generates $891,000 Dollars every two years.. Dockery says Pendragon will raise $11,200 for the study and they’re hoping the village along with other entities such as North Country Community College will be able to match those funds to proceed with the feasibility study..  The Village did not take any action on the presentation at Monday’s meeting but expects to receive a formal request for consideration at their next meeting in two weeks.
