The Lake Champlain Basin program is going into their 8th year of the boat launch steward program and Meg Modley, Aquatic Species Management Coordinator says she is looking for help. Modely says last year they had ten stewards working boat launch sites around Lake Champlain between Memorial Day and Labor Day. They collect survey information about the type of boat, state of registration, and other bodies of water recently visited.
Stewards found that over 85% of Lake Champlain visitors surveyed had taken measures to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species. Modely says this program has provided important information to the Basin program and having the stewards available to remind boaters to be conscious of invasive species control has been extremely valuable.
