Billed “a musical within a comedy,” this recent addition to the Broadway repertoire features a score hearkening back to the 1920s Jazz Era, stylized comedy, and rousing dance numbers that are sure to bring a smile to everyone’s face! The plot centers around a star of the Vaudeville stage who is leaving the “life of glamour” to marry her fiancee, albeit with some trepidation at giving up her beloved stardom. Meanwhile, her producer is trying every trick in the book to keep her in the show, even hiring a Latin lethario to try and break off the engagement. He, by the way, is under pressure from two gangsters posing as pastry chefs who are sent by the financial backers of Felzeig’s Follies to make sure that the star does not leave the show. Add in the love-groom, his hapless best man, the addle-brained estate owner, her long-suffering underling, the prohibition-ignoring chaperone, and an aviatrix who descends in the operatic tradition of “Deus ex Machina” to save the day at the last minute and you can already tell that this is a recipe for a comedy of errors, mix-ups, and mayhem, all ingeniously narrated by a “man in the chair.”
Showtimes are Thursday, March 27, Friday, March 28, and Saturday, March 29, all at 7:30. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students.
