Georgia Pacific is throwing it’s support behind a Bike Path on North Margaret Street in Plattsburgh… In fact, they’ve agreed to spend $5,000 for a study of the traffic patterns…Councilwoman Becky Kasper says the idea originated from a group of citizens who live in the residential areas around North Margaret.. Theresa Paige is part of the PASS community Group… Plattsburgh Acquiring Safe Streets.. “I’m pleased that the new board has put their support behind this project,” Paige Said. “and we have 100% of the support of businesses in the area as well.”
The City Council in their regular order of business authorized Mayor Calnon to sign the Engineering Consultant Agreement with Stantec for the Traffic Feasibility Study for North Margaret Street, Boynton Avenue and Cumberland Head Road.. Kasper added during the authorization that the citizens group have worked tirelessly to identify the problem..
Councilwoman Rachelle Armstrong says there have been various groups who have approached her with ideas about improvement in the city and she has referred them to the work of the PASS Community Group.. And she continued by saying she was pleased to use their model for advancing community development on North Margaret Street as an example for others to take on..
The Consulting firm now takes the project to examine the feasibility of adding a bike lane to the road and will report it’s finding to the council when the research is completed..
