Silver Speaks Out on UPK during Rally with NY Mayor DeBlasio

Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver is pushing Universal Pre-K and speaks out about the issue at an event on Tuesday in the Capital…. Speaker Silver was joined by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio at the rally.. During his speech he says they’ve fought so hard and so relentlessly to bring Universal Pre-K to the state for the past 17 years..

The Speaker highlighted the Assembly’s shared goal with Mayor de Blasio and reiterated his goal to ensure that every child has a solid start on the road to academic achievement.. During his speech at the UPK rally, also commented that communities across the state cannot afford to waste the potential contained in the minds of our young children.

In the North Country, Assemblywoman Janet Duprey is also in favor of a Universal Pre-K Program, but she says, in 2014, the legislature has to be focused on returning School Funding across the state to the levels before they were reduced by the Gap Elimination Adjustment Loophole..
