First Weekend’s Events Committee Co-Chair Leigh Smionette says some favorites from last year will be returning and they’re looking to come back bigger and better than ever..
First weekend activities will begin Friday at Peabody’s with another Celebrity Bartending event, followed by Jay Lesage and Haley McGivney and the return of Liesa and Masouda World Dance Ensembnle.. plus an art opening with Kaitlyn Donovan.
Saturday from April to November, City Hall Place will be closed to offer a wide variety of merchants, not for profits and performers to access the street.
The events will kick off Saturday with Gordie Little at Under One Roof Video Store who will do a story hour from 12:30 to 1:30, then at 2:00pm scavenger hunt will take place along City Hall Place, the monument and Trinity Park. Center Stage will perform a dance routine on City Hall Place at 2:00pm. Dress Code , Cache Elegant, and Sugar & Spice will host a fashion show as well at 4:00pm along City Hall Place. The Champlain Valley Transportation Museum, Adirondack Wildlife Refuge, Autism Alliance and ARC will also provide activities l, and the City Fire Department back on hand. Other activities will follow. One thing is for sure, First Weekends will not disappoint!
Also with prior reservation, Vilari’s will offer a free lesson Saturday morning for kids. Parents must call prior to Saturday April 5th to register for the lesson. Master Dave Boise can be reached at 561-8592.
First Weekends hopes to bolster its concert series this season. Esposito & Sons donated their services to help move the city’s performance stage to City Hall Place. For April 5th, the First Weekends committee says they’re excited to announce North Funk Tree will perform around 5:00pm.
Don’t forget your buttons
This year First Weekends will offer buttons for sale to gain access to discounts from various downtown businesses. Button’s will sell for $10.00 and all proceeds will help fund events for First Weekends. Buttons will be valid for the entire 2014 season. McCormick said, “This year we will see an increase in business participation, the buttons will surely provide value for the price”
