The first “First Weekend” of the season is approaching in Downtown Plattsburgh.. Friday April 4th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, First Weekends will showcase local treasure Peabody’s Bar and Grill! ” Josh Dubay has been supportive since day one”, Tim McCormick, President of First Weekends Stated.” It was a perfect fit to host a guest bartender event at his facility” Peabody’s on Clinton Street, was established in 1975 by Robert Wallett, who will be the guest bartender. “It seems like a perfect fit to have him come back as our guest this month”, Carrie Ann Rollier, Treasure and Fundraising Committee Co-Chair said.
The First Weekends Committee plans music by Jay Lesage and Haley McGivney and the return of Liesa & The Masouda World Dance Ensemble. The weekend also includes an art opening with the works of Kaitlyn Donovan.
Each first Friday night, First Weekends hopes to showcase one particular downtown business and surrounding businesses in that area through their guest bartender campaign. “We are hoping by the end of 2014 to have reached out to every downtown business for participation”, Simonette said.
Saturday from April to November, City Hall Place will be closed off again to offer a wide variety of merchants, not for profits and performers to access the street. The organization has a lot in the works and continue to partner with with Champlain Valley Transportation Museum! The group also welcomes Center Stage back again and continue to reach out to old and new favorites.
Saturday kicks off with Gordie Little at Under One Roof Video Store who will do a story hour from 12:30 to 1:30, then at 2:00pm scavenger hunt will take place along City Hall Place, the monument and Trinity Park. Center Stage will perform a dance routine on City Hall Place at 2:00pm. Dress Code , Cache Elegant, and Sugar & Spice will host a fashion show as well at 4:00pm along City Hall Place. The Champlain Valley Transportation Museum, Adirondack Wildlife Refuge, Autism Alliance and ARC will also provide activities, and the City Fire Department back on hand. Other activities will follow. Also with prior reservation, Vilari’s will offer a free lesson Saturday morning for kids. Parents must call prior to Saturday April 5th to register for the lesson. First Weekends hopes to bolster its concert series this season. Esposito & Sons was willing to donate their services to help move the city’s performance stage to City Hall Place. For April 5th First Weekends announces North Funk Tree will perform around 5:00pm.
Don’t forget your buttons
This year First Weekends will offer buttons for sale to gain access to discounts from various downtown businesses. Button’s will sell for $10.00 and all proceeds will help fund events for First Weekends. Buttons will be valid for the entire 2014 season. McCormick said, “This year we will see an increase in business participation, the buttons will surely provide value for the price”
