Searching for the Centennial Quilt

The search for the Centennial Quilt is taking a new turn this week as the Village Board has put their weight behind a resolution calling for the return of the quilt to its rightful owners… The Centennial Quilt is a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the village of Saranac Lake from 1992 depicting various buildings and landmarks in the community.. Coralie North is a member of the Cabin Fever Quilters club and she spoke to the village board about the quilt’s history in the village… which begins in the old Village Offices which are now the offices of Myriad RBM.. “It was removed from the village offices,” North told the board, “S i was asked to approach the Hotel Saranac to see if they would display it there and it was in fact displayed there. In 2006 Mr Aroura purchased the Hotel Saranac.” North says he wouldn’t talk to her about the quilt. She continues her story by saying she found out that the quilt was missing and that the quilt may have been given to a charitable organization. “I didn’t realize that Mr Aroura had a charitable side.” North said. She sent communications to him to try to make arrangements to get the quilt back but hasn’t heard back from him.
