Teachers Feeling The School Budget Pinch

School Boards Across the North Country are dealing with declining revenue, much of which is being withheld from New York State in the form of the Gap Elimination Adjustment which is disproportionately affecting smaller more rural districts and putting many in the situation which has been seen in Saranac Lake this year…Don Carlisto is the President of the Saranac Lake Teachers Association.. He spoke with us just prior to the Saranac Lake Central School Board’s Meeting where they approved a $28.3 Million Dollar Budget – which comes in under the Tax Cap… From the teacher’s point of view, Carlisto says the State has made an override of the tax cap a proposition that is incredibly daunting..As for the reduction in staff, Carlisto says any position that’s lost is a position that’s going to have ramifications in terms of what the school looks like when the position is gone..
