The Plattsburgh Beautification Committee is sponsoring a cleanup on the rails this weekend… Councilor Becky Kasper says cleaning up the rails is really about giving travelers a better view of the city from the train..”It will get underway tomorrow morning at 8:30 at the Smithweed Bridge.. If you go from Weed Street and follow the railroad tracks, you’re going along Miller and if you peer down along that corridor, it’s absolutely filled with trash and people that are traveling from Montreal to New York City and visa versa are looking out and seeing nothing but trash. Hopefully we’ll have a good turnout,” Kasper said, “It’s Saturday morning at 8:30am..” The committee has timed this around Memorial day and are asking residents to consider cleaning up their own neighborhoods and putting out their flags.
Then as part of National Trails Day on June 7th, another cleanup, Sponsored by Friends of the Saranac River Trail.. Jesse Feiler is one of the organizers of the event.. He says participants will meet at Pine Street and the Saranac Street Bridge from 9am to 12noon to help with a cleanup of the Saranac River Trail. In addition to the cleanup, Feiler says participants will be able to get together with other trail fans to find out about upcoming events on the Saranac River Trail. Kevin Farrington, Plattsburgh’s CIty Engineer will tak about phase two of the trail. Other participants in special presentations include the Sunrise Rotary, Friends of the Max Moore Memorial Treehouse, PIB, and the Kent Delord House, along with the North Country Chamber of Commerce will be making a special announcement.
