Remediation Begins

Contractors are on site at the former Wilson Farms in Saranac Lake and Community Development Director Jeremy Evans says they’ve been hired to complete a DEC approved environmental remediation plan…  It includes removing all of the gasoline pump fixtures, The Concrete Slab, the canopy, underground tanks and associated piping and any contaminated soil..  As for the timeline, Village Manager John Sweeney says it should take them about two weeks to have all of the work complete and ready for inspection by DEC..

A few years ago, a Citgo Station on River Street in Saranac Lake went through a similar process to remove all of the underground fuel tanks, and associated piping..  That location was purchased and is now Fusion Market….  We asked Evans if this remediation at Wilson Farms would protect the next buyer from that liability “It does and it protects the village, and neighbors, essentially removing the risk of damage to the environment. There will be more interest once the abatement is complete and the DEC has signed off on the completion of the work.” The Department of Environmental Conservation is in charge of overseeing the remediation..
