K&J – Interviews Tom Worthington on NY Fire and Safety Codes

In April of 2013 right before parent teacher conferences in Saranac Lake.. There were suddenly no pieces of paper on the wall… The school essentially went from very well decorated walls with items from students and class projects to just the blank walls..  This change inspired a careful look at why this might be necessary and how less paper on a wall can essentially save the lives of students trying to escape during a fire emergency.. It’s a two part K&J show… In Part one we’re focusing on fire codes, for an understanding of the issues, we’ll speak with North Elba Councilman Jack Favro and then with Saranac Lake Code Enforcement Officer Tom Worthington about Fire and Safety Codes in New York State. Tom has since resigned from the code enforcement office in Saranac Lake.
