Memorial Day 2014 – Ceremonies through the North Country

Memorial Day reminds us of our duties towards the soldiers, and their bereaved families and their Orphans and widows of the slain soldiers.. and we honor their memory in as many ways as we can..  The American Flag can be flown at Half Mast until noon, for example, furling the POW -MIA flag as well.. and at 3pm a national moment of silence remembering veterans and their sacrifices for the nation..  Locally, Memorial Day Parades will be held in many communities….

In Saranac Lake a Veteran’s Parade begins at the Hotel Saranac and ends in RiversidePark where Memorial Day Services will follow..  The Parade gets underway at 10:45am..  It will be lead by the Saranac Lake High School Marching Band..

The Plattsburgh American Legion Post 20 Memorial Day ceremony is set for 11 a.m. on Quarry Road in Plattsburgh. The ceremony will be Followed by a light lunch and a Community Garden Dedication at Noon at the MelissaLPenfieldPark..  The event is Sponsored by the Plattsburgh Community Garden Group, with spiritual leaders from the community and Memorial Day comments from Plattsburgh’s Mayor Jim Calnon..

In Lake Placid The Parade gets underway at 11am down Main Street and Concludes at the American Legion with memorial Day Ceremonies will Follow..

The Tupper Lake Memorial Day Ceremony is held on Park Street next to the State Theater.. This Year’s event Includes special tribute to the women from the community who have or are still serving in the military. And  the TupperLakeHigh School band will be on hand for taps and other interludes during the ceremony.

Memorial Day services begin in Rouses Point at 9:30 a.m. presented by the American Legion Montgomery Post 912 at St. Patrick’s Cemetery. The Services continue at the MapleHillCemetery at 10:00 a.m., St. Mary’s on Prospect Hill at 10:30, Glenwood at 11 a.m., St. Mary’s – on Church Street at 11:30 and St. Joseph’s Cemetery at noon.. Then At 12:30 the Memorial Day ceremony and a placing of the memorial wreath at VeteransPark on Montgomery Street. A light luncheon will be held at American Legion Montgomery Post 912 on Pratt Street following the ceremonies.

The American Legion Post 322 gathers this morning at 7:15 a.m in St Regis Falls..  With  Cemetery services in Santa Clara at 8 a.m

In Malone a Parade at 10 a.m. down Main Street to the Veterans Memorial Park for a remembrance ceremony..

Events in Elizabethtown include the Annual Memorial Day Parade and Service beginning at 10 am from Hand Avenue… The Memorial service will take place at about 10:30 in the Windsor Park

The Crown Point, Memorial Day Observances begin at 9 am with a tour of town cemeteries.. at 2 pm the ceremonies continue with a Memorial Day Parade on Main Street and at 3 pm a bands performance in the park.
